Bristow et al. (1997) published a lithostratigraphical scheme for mapping the Chalk Group of southern England. This scheme borrows much from that of Mortimore (1986a), but modifies some lithostratigraphical concepts, and adds some new lithostratigraphical divisions. The Bristow et al. classification focuses on the major lithostratigraphical boundaries as evidenced by feature mapping by the British Geological Survey, and does not attempt to exhaustively describe the detailed lithostratigraphy between these boundaries, as was the case in the Mortimore (1986a) classification.
