Chalk Group Lithostratigraphy: Northern England - Beacon Hill Farm Marls

Whitham (1993) recognised three thick (40-120 mm) marls in this group, comprising dark grey, brown and green-brown silty and unctuous marls, the lowest with chalk lens inclusions. Subsequently, Mitchell (1994) recognised a fourth marl (c. 30 mm thick) in the group, but its exact correspondence to the marls identified by Whitham (1994) is uncertain.
