Chalk Group Lithostratigraphy: Northern England - Lower Orbirhynchia Bed

A thin, laterally persistent, but ill-defined bed containing an acme of the brachiopod Orbirhynchia mantelliana, correlating with the lowest of the three O. mantelliana bands recognised in the Lower Chalk at Folkestone (eg. Gale, 1989), and recorded locally below the Totternhoe Stone in the King's Lynn district of East Anglia (Gaunt et al., 1992; Gallois, 1994).
