Southern Region Chalk Group Lithostratigraphy: Bristow et al. (1997) - Glauconitic Marl

From Earthwise
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Where present, this unit forms the base of the Chalk Group. It is mostly synonymous with the Glauconitic Marl of traditional classifications, except that in some areas (e.g. south-west Wiltshire), strata traditionally regarded as Glauconitic Marl are actually glauconitic calcareous sandstones, and have been re-classified as Upper Greensand (Bristow et al., 1997). The Glauconitic Marl is absent in the Shaftesbury district, over the Mid Dorset Swell and in south-east Devon (Bristow et al., 1997).

Macrofossil Biozonation: M. mantelli Zone, N. carcitanense Subzone
