The East Wear Bay Chalk Formation (stratotype Copt Point to Hay Cliff, Folkestone [TR 242 365 to TR 301 394] ), c. 58 m thick at Abbots Cliff, comprises rhythmically bedded carbonate-rich and carbonate-poor marly chalk, becoming less argillaceous towards the top of the formation (Robinson, 1986). The basal part of the formation is designated the Glauconitic Marl Member, but no subdivision is recognised for the remainder, which contains local fossil acmes, particularly the bivalve Aucellina near the base, and the brachiopod Orbirhynchia at higher levels (Robinson, 1986).

Macrofossil Biozonation: M. mantelli, M. dixoni and A. rhotomagense zones (Robinson, 1986)
