Age: Early Campanian to late Campanian.

Macrofaunal correlation: The middle G. quadrata Zone to the upper B. mucronata Zone.

Definition: The interval between the LAD of Callaiosphaeridium asymmetricum to the FAD of Areoligera senonensis.

Comments: The FAD of Areoligera senonensis is a well established range base datum in the latest Campanian (Wilson, 1974; Herngreen et al., 1986). Possible alternative markers for the top of this biozone are the FADs of Cerodinium diebelii, Eatonicysta hapala, Neoeurysphaeridium glabrum, Palynodinium grallator and consistent Spongodinium delitiense (see Wilson, 1974; Foucher & Masure, 1983; Robaszynski et al., 1983; 1985; Haq et al., 1987; Schiøler & Wilson, 1993; Slimani, 1994; Foucher & Monteil, 1998). The FAD of Gillinia hymenophora occurs at the base of the B. mucronata Zone (Wilson, 1974; Robaszynski et al., 1983; 1985).

Lithostratigraphical correlation: The Culver Chalk and Portsdown Chalk formations (Southern Province), the Flamborough Chalk Formation (Northern Province) and the Mackerel Formation (North Sea).
