Age: Latest Turonian.

Macrofaunal correlation: The uppermost S. plana/S. neptuni Zone.

Definition: The interval between the FAD of Raetiaedinium truncigerum to the LAD of Stephodinium coronatum.

Comments: The LAD of Stephodinium coronatum is a reliable marker for the Turonian-Coniacian boundary (Foucher, 1979; Haq et al., 1987; Costa & Davey, 1992; Stover et al., 1996). An alternative marker for the top of this zone is the FAD of Florentinia tenera (see Davey & Verdier, 1976; Foucher, 1979; Costa & Davey, 1992; Foucher & Monteil, 1998).

Lithostratigraphical correlation: The middle Lewes Nodular Chalk Formation (Southern Province), the lower Burnham Chalk Formation (Northern Province) and the Mackerel Formation (North Sea).
