Summary

This composite section in Cutlers Quarry [SD 6239 4007] and Dale House Quarry [SD 6253 4022] (both disused), located about 2.5 km northeast of Longridge, Lancashire (Aitkenhead et al., 1992)[1] is a reference section for the Pendleside Limestone Formation (Riley, 1990[2]; Waters et al. 2009[3]).

PENDLESIDE LIMESTONE FORMATION

Thin to thick-bedded, bioturbated, grey wackestones and packstones with common black chert lenses and nodules, some graded beds and shaly mudstone intercalations. The thick massive beds comprise dark grey wackestones and thinner graded wackestones/packstone beds with sharp bases and directional sole structures (Aitkenhead et al., 1992). Slump folds are present in the extreme right-hand part of the quarry face.
