Summary
This composite section in Cutlers Quarry [SD 6239 4007] and Dale House Quarry [SD 6253 4022] (both disused), located about 2.5 km northeast of Longridge, Lancashire (Aitkenhead et al., 1992)[1] is a reference section for the Pendleside Limestone Formation (Riley, 1990[2]; Waters et al. 2009[3]).
PENDLESIDE LIMESTONE FORMATION
Cutler's Quarry, WNW of Dale House near Longridge, is a disused quarry in the main Pendleside Limestone above the Rad Brook Mudstone Member. Thin to thick-bedded, bioturbated, grey wackestones and packstones with common black chert lenses and nodules, some graded beds and shaly mudstone intercalations. The thick massive beds comprise dark grey wackestones and thinner graded wackestones/packstone beds with sharp bases and directional sole structures (Aitkenhead et al., 1992). Slump folds are present in the extreme right-hand part of the quarry face.

Dale House Quarry NW of Dale House near Longridge. Disused quarry in Pendleside Limestone above the Rad Brook Mudstone Member. Thin to thick-bedded, grey to dark grey wackestones and packstones some with abundant chert nodules, some graded beds and shaly mudstone intercalations, similar to Cutler’s Quarry. Total thickness 25.36 metres.

Structure
Both quarries show a tectonic dip of 47o to the southeast.
