Earthwise<sup>TM</sup>    is the digital publication channel for the British Geological Survey (BGS). The aim is to initially complement, and eventually replace, the main print publication series of the BGS. Earthwise<sup>TM</sup> will become the chief digital means of disseminating high-quality BGS science and engaging with the wider geoscientific community. It is not intended to be an encyclopaedia but a means of stimulating the exchange of geoscience information. The wider geoscientific community will have the opportunity to comment and contribute articles on related topics, but not to edit existing articles anonymously. Earthwise<sup>TM</sup> articles will be reviewed before publication and their authors, with their affiliations, will be clearly identified.
