Director, B. L. SHERLOCK, D. Sc., F.G.S.

Excursion Secretary, A. H. WILLIAMS Woodbine, Torrington Park, N. Finchley.

Train leaves King's Cross (Main Line), 1.45 ; arrive Knebworth 2.34. Single fare, 3/1½. Return from Welwyn, 7.39; arrive King's Cross, 8.17. Fare. 2/9. Chief points of interest are—evidence of a former pre-glacial course of the River Alimram, and sections of Drift and Chalk. This will be the fourth of the series to study the Plateau Gravels to the north of London.

ROUTE.—Westwards from Knebworth Station to Knebworth Park, and thence to Deep End, over a Drift plateau. Then over chalk, to the Hitchin Road ; cross this and proceed to High Heath, where there are large gravel and sand pits showing considerable variety of deposition. The age and origin of these gravels will be discussed. Next to Codicote, which stands on Boulder Clay, filling the site of the old valley of the Mimram. Here tea will be taken. Afterwards the route is southwards to the present channel of the Mimram, across it, at Pulinore Water, and up the opposite slope to Ryefield Farm, which is on chalk. Thence by held-path to Liners Farm and Welwpi. Here the Drift ridge representing the old valley is again reached. Finally , from Welwyn to Welwyn Station, over gravel. Total distance, 7 miles.
