Leave Waterloo 8.50, due Dinton 11.47. To obtain cheap return tickets, 10s. 4d. each, meet Excursion Secretary at Booking Office, South Station, not later than 8.35 o'clock. Bring lunch.
At Dinton examine sections in Lower, Middle, and Upper Purbecks with junction of Wealden Beds. Thence proceed by footpath to Teffont Ewyias, see a long section at Limekiln Quarry in Purbeck Beds, examine Fish Bed with ''Caturus, Comolepisdeer, Leptolepis ''and ''Pleuropholis, ''also ''Cypris ''and ''Cyrena ''shales.
Walk to the picturesque ravine of Chilmark, and visit extensive workings in the Upper and Lower Portland Beds. The Ragstone or Lower Cyrena Beds yielding numerous gasteropods and bivalves. The Director will provide lights and facilities for visiting the great underground excavations.
The party will then proceed to Lower Chicksgrove and see junction of Purbeck and Portland Beds with ''Trigonia, Serpula, ''etc., and the ''isopod ''limestone with ''Archaeoniscus brodiei, ''noting the peculiar fissures called " Lets."
Walk to Ridge showing sections in Gault and Greensand with ''Ostrea vesiculosa, Pecten asper, ''and ''P. quadriocostatus.''
From Ridge cross the Downs to Ladydown to visit quarries in Purbeck Beds. The fissile beds are worked for tilestones, and contain ''Cyrena ''and Fish remains. From these quarries were obtained the Purbeck columns of Salisbury Cathedral.
Arrive at Tilbury at 6.0 p.m., where the Director invites the party to dine with him at the South Western Hotel.
Total walking distance about 6 miles.
