Excursion to Epsom and Banstead. Saturday, May 24th, 1919 (Transcribed from: GA Circular No. 217. Session 1919-1920. p.4-5)

Directors G W. YOUNG, F.G.S., and W. WRIGHT, F.G.S. Excursion Socretary, W. WRIGHT, 24, Balham Park Road, S.W. 12.

Train leaves Waterloo (L. & S.W.R.) at 2.3 p.m., due Epsom, 2.42 p.m. Fare, 1/9.

Walk along Alexander Road to Epsom Lime Works, near the Royal Medical Benevolent College, where most of the section shows hard white chalk, with many flints, belonging to the zone of Micraster cor-anguinum. In the upper part the chalk is softer, and contains fewer flints, and belongs to the zone of Marsupites; Actinocamax granulatus and ossicles of Uintacrinus, both eharacteristic of this zone, have been found here.

Walk eastward, past the Cottage Home Schools, to Banstead Downs, where cuttings both east and west of the railway station show chalk of similar character to that seen at Epsom Lime Works. Ample time will be allowed for collecting here. From this point a splendid view is obtained northward over the London Basin.

Tea will be taken at Banstead Station, price 1/- each, after which walk north-west down the dip slope, noting two small pits near Howell Hill, and, if time permits, a third pit near Nonsuch House, all of which are in the zone of Marsupites.

Walking distance, about 4½ miles.

Return from Ewell (L.B. & S.C.R.) at 8.10 p.m.; arriving Victoria, 8..55 p.m. or from L. & S.W. station at 7.51, due Waterloo 8.22. Fare, 1/7.
