Walk westwards to a brick and tile works on the south side of the railway and not far from Newnham. Examine sections in London Clay. Fossils are usually to be found in some abundance. A list of London Clay fossils from the adjoining railway cutting is given by Prestwich (1847, paper, p. 37l ); and see also list in Whites "Basingstoke," pp. 57–59. It will be of interest to compare the London Clay at this place with that seen at Bracknell on April 8th.

An adjoining brick and tile storks with a similar section will probably be visited, and the walk will be continued southwards to a third brick and tile works near Upper Nately, where the fossiliferous Basement Bed of the London Clay is well seen. The section, which is of considerable interest, is given in White's "Basingstoke" at p. 55. The sandy part of the Reading Beds is to be seen at the same locality, and also by the side of the canal a little further south.
