Walk westwards to a brick and tile works on the south side of the railway and not far from Newnham. Examine sections in London Clay. Fossils are usually to be found in some abundance. A list of London Clay fossils from the adjoining railway cutting is given by Prestwich (1847, paper, p. 37l ); and see also list in Whites"Basingstoke," pp. 57–59. It will be of interest to compare the London Clay at this place with that seen at Bracknell on April 8th.

An adjoining brick and tile storks with a similar section will probably be visited, and the walk will be continued southwards to a third brick and tile works near Upper Nately, where the fossiliferous Basement Bed of the London Clay is well seen. The section, which is of considerable interest, is given in White's "Basingstoke" at p. 55. The sandy part of the Reading Beds is to be seen at the same locality, and also by the side of the canal a little further south.

EXCURSION SECRETARY: MISS E. PEARSE, 3, Bessborough Mansions, Westminster, S.W.

Leave Waterloo 1.30 p.m. by train due at Hook 3.0 p.m. To obtain cheap. return tickets, 4s. 11d. each, meet Excursion Secretary under clock, on No.1 platform, not later than 1.15 p.m.

Walk westwards to a brick and tile works on the south side of the railway and not far from Newnham. Examine sections in London Clay. Fossils are usually to be found in some abundance. A list of London Clay fossils from the adjoining railway cutting is given by Prestwich (1847, paper, p. 37l ); and see also list in Whites "Basingstoke," pp.

The party will cross the canal and examine the interesting blocks of sandstone mentioned by Mr. White, op. cit. p. 49, and a disused brickfield described by him, pp. 45–47, and Fig. 3. A reference to the map given by Mr. White, op. cit. p. 77, will show the position of the sections to be visited with relation to the Kingsclere anticlinal, Upper Nately being a little to the west of Greywell, which is marked on that map.

From Nately the party will walk to Old Basing, which is a place of historic interest.

Tea at the Crown Inn, Old Basing (plain tea 9d., meat tea, 1s. 3d).

Walk to Basingstoke.

Return train Basingstoke, 9.5. p.m.; site at Waterloo 12.5 p.m.

Total walking distance a little over seven miles. This Excursion is well suited for Cyclists.
