Leave Euston by 12.20 p.m. train, due at Leighton at 1.44. To obtain special return tickets (4s. 2d. each) meet Excursion Secretary in the Great Hall not later than 12.5 p.m. Members following by the 1.45 train should go straight to the Shenley Pits, but if they wish tea provided should give notice to the Secretary.
 
 
Walk to Shenley Hill and examine extensive pits showing Boulder Clay on Gault, and Gault on Lower Gieensand. Examine basement bed of the Gault and search for the fossiliferous band in the upper part of the Lower Greensand (this was not exposed on the last visit of the G.A.). The sands are brilliantly coloured and the concretionary ironstone is sometimes iridescent.
 
  
Return to Leighton and, if time permit, examine the pits at Grovebury Siding, where the base of the Gault is again exposed.
 
 
Several sections on this excursion are worth photographing.
 
 
Tea at Swan Hotel, is 3d. with eggs, 1s. 9d. with cold meat.
 
 
Total walking distance about 5 miles.
 
 
Return train from Leighton 7.2, due at Euston at 8.20.
