Eocene sections on Messrs. E. Proctor and Sons' land shew 50 to 60 feet (1) Thanet sands ; (2) Woolwich Shell Beds, clays, and and gravels ; (3) Blackheath sands and gravels. Blackheath pebbles may be inspected for (a) variation in she from pea gravel to shingle, (b) evidence of crushing, (c) derived Chalk fossils. Ascend to Plumstead Common, note plateau, features of Blackheath Gravels, eminence of Shooters Hill (London Clay), course of East Wickham Valley.

Cross to Bostal Woods. At caves, note upper chalk with flints, Bullhead bed (green-coated flints), and Thanet Sands. Pass through woods to Bostal Heath, where abrupt spur of Blackheath Gravels affords commanding view of Wanstead Flats (Alluvium). Descend to cars (Abbey Wood line). Tea may be arranged at Woolwich.

Return trains Woolwich Arsenal. 6.33 and 6.58.
