Geologists' Association Circular No. 135. Session 1910–1911. p.4-5

Excursion to Wargrave, Saturday, July 8th, 1911. (Transcription from GA Circular )

DIRECTOR: LLEWELLYN TREACHER, F.G.S. EXCURSION SECRETARY: A. II. WILLIAMS, 385, Holloway Road, N.

Leave Paddington 2.10; arrive at Wargrave 2.53. Meet Excursion Secretary in Main-line Booking Office, not later than 1.55. Return fare 3s. 5d.

Walk across Church Green and through the village northward and ascend the hill on the right to Wargrave Hill Lodge, just beyond which take the footpath on the left to the top of Bowsey Hill. As this path is somewhat obscure in places members are advised to keep well together, or some may lose their way in the woods. If the weather is wet the route will be slightly altered.

On the summit of Bowsey Hill, 467 ft. O.D. there is a good section of the Westleton Beds now open. Fine views of the Thames Valley may be had from here.

Descend the hill through the woods to Warren Row, and inspect a small but clean section showing the junction of the Chalk with the Reading Beds, The chalk is worked in underground galleries.

Proceed to Knowl Hill, and, by kind permission of Mr. H. Warner, visit the brickyard in the Reading Beds. It is hoped that the leaf-beds will be exposed on this occasion. Walking distance, Wargrave to Knowl Hill, 4 miles

Tea at the "Seven Stars," Knowl Hill, 9d. or 1s. each.

After tea drive to Twyford, cost 1s. each (distance 3 miles).

Return train leaves Twyford Station 7.59, due at Paddington 9.10.

Members can either walk from Knowl Hill or drive and spend the time at Twyford, inspecting the Director's collection of flint implements, etc.
