Summary

description
English: Figure 3 AFTA data from well 47/25-1. On the right, fission-track ages measured in five samples are plotted against depth, together with the variation of strati-graphic age with depth and the trend of fission-track age versus depth predicted from the “default thermal history” for apatites from two compositional groups. On the left, fission-track ages in individual grains of apatite are plotted against weight per cent Cl for the two deepest samples. The horizontal black lines in these plots again show the trend of fission-track age versus Cl, predicted from the respective default thermal history. The consistency of the younger fission-track ages in the lowest Cl apatites in these samples shows that they were totally annealed prior to cooling and, therefore, that these ages reflect the time at which cooling began.
