Geological localities considered to be of national importance are protected as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI’s). These are statutory designated conservation sites which have some protection under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Further information on the extent and designation of SSSIs and locally-designated Regionally Important Geodiversity Sites (RIGS) within the district can be obtained from Natural England, Northminster House, Peterborough, PE1 1UA.
