Biostratigraphical correlation: It is unclear if Jukes-Browne & Hill (1904) used the top of the range of Gonioteuthis to fix the top of the underlying A. quadratus Zone (as used to define the top of the current G. quadrata Zone), or the lowest occurrence of Belemnitella, as apparently used by Rowe (1900). The zone therefore equates with an interval from at or just below the base of the current B. mucronata Zone, to the top of the Chalk Group in southern England.

Lithostratigraphical correlation: Equates with all but the basal part of the Portsdown Chalk Formation (including the equivalent of the Studland Chalk) of southern England.

Age: Campanian.
