Organisations are singular. The government is (not are) or the BGS is (not BGS are).

Use an initial capital for all governments, British and overseas, when referring to a specific one, e.g. ‘the Government issued a press release’.

Use lowercase government in all adjectival contexts, e.g. a government minister, a government decision, government expenditure.

Government departments should be in capitals e.g. Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform.
