Reviewing pages

THE FIRST (SCIENTIFIC) REVIEWER CHECKS A NEW PAGE

  • The first reviewer checks for scientific accuracy and completeness of the page.
  • As first reviewer you need to have Reviewer privileges within the system.
  • Log in to the GeoSource main page.
  • Check Recent changes (left-hand margin). The new page will appear in bold marked N for new and highlighted as an unchecked page.
  • Click on the link to bring up the page which will have a review bar at the bottom.
  • Check the page in the edit view and make changes if necessary. When this is complete, click Save''.
  • Use the review bar to make the appropriate selections from the Accuracy, Depth and Readability menus, add a comment and click Accept revision.
  • Check on the progress of the page using My Watchlist or Recent changes.

AUTHOR - REVIEWER INTERACTION

If you are the author

  • Find the page listed in My watchlist or Recent changes
  • Click on diff to compare previous and current version side-by-side with changes highlighted. The full page is displayed below.
  • Click on hist'' to see a history of changes to the page
  • The reviewer’s comments will be visible in the My watchlist or Recent changes listing
  • In the diff view, the text above the changed version (right-hand version) includes a link with the text Latest revision as of xx:xx, date and Edit and Undo. Click on Latest version… to view the page, click on edit to enter the edit view and click on Undo to revert to the previous version also in the edit view.
  • When in the edit view, a Summary box allows you to make a comment. When the changes are made, click Submit changes. The page will display with the following message in a coloured box: ‘Your changes will be displayed to readers once an authorized user accepts them. (help)'There is '''1 pending change (shown below) awaiting review’.

If you are the reviewer

  • Check My Watchlist or Recent changes'' to monitor further developments on the page. The changed page will appear in the list under the appropriate date with the words pending edits ''highlighted under the title.
  • Click on
  • The title to view the page. A message saying ‘This is the stable version, approved on xx month2013. 1 pending change awaits review.(+)’will be displayed at the top of the page. This is the stable version i.e. it does not show the author’s latest changes.
  • Pending edits'' or diff to see the two latest versions side-by-side. A review bar at the top of the view allows the reviewer to Accept the revisions and comment''. The page is now displayed without any comment at the top.
  • In the diff view, click edit to make further changes. After these changes are Saved the reviewer can use the review bar to Accept the revisions and comment
  • The author–reviewer interaction can continue until agreement has been reached or the reviewer over-rules the author – use the Comment box to clarify. See the Review log for an exhaustive list of changes and comments. The Advanced review log is available via Special pages (left-hand margin) – Edit Review
  • When a page has been reviewed a second time and accepted, the following message appears at the top: ‘A quality version of this page, approved on xx month2013, was based off this revision’. Click on quality version to see the agreed page and click on approved to see a review log.

SECOND REVIEWER’S CHECK

  • The second reviewer is a senior manager who will:
  • Make sure that the scientific review (first reviewer) and editorial checks have taken place
  • Approve release of the page(s)
  • As second reviewer you need to have Reviewer privileges within the system
  • Log in and look at My watchlist or Recent changes
  • The page will appear in bold in the list under the date it was last worked on
  • Click on hist to see who has approved the page
  • Click on the link to display the page. The message ‘A quality version of this page, approved on xx month2013, was based off this revision.(+)’ will appear at the top of the page. . Click on quality version to see the agreed page and click on approved to see a review log.
  • Check the page and if further changes are needed, enter the edit view, make the changes and Save.
  • The page will have a review bar at its foot. Make the appropriate selections from the Accuracy, Depth and Readability menus, add a comment and click Accept revision. If you feel your review has finalised the review process, the comment should read ‘This page has been approved for release’.
