The Seaford Chalk, 60-80 m thick, equates with the Seaford Chalk of Mortimore (1986a). The base of the unit is marked by the upward appearance of fine-grained, soft to firm chalk with common tabular and semitabular flints above the hard, nodular Lewes Nodular Chalk. The latter change is approximately coincident with Shoreham Marl 2 of Mortimore (1986a), although in some areas it occurs slightly above this horizon (Bristow ''et al''., 1997). The top of the Seaford Chalk is marked by a major negative (i.e. concave) feature, approximately coincident with Buckle Marl 1 of Mortimore (1986a) (Bristow ''et al''., 1997). | The Seaford Chalk, 60-80 m thick, equates with the Seaford Chalk of Mortimore (1986a). The latter change is approximately coincident with Shoreham Marl 2 of Mortimore (1986a), although in some areas it occurs slightly above this horizon (Bristow et al., 1997). The top of the Seaford Chalk is marked by a major negative (i.e. concave) feature, approximately coincident with Buckle Marl 1 of Mortimore (1986a) (Bristow et al., 1997).
