The Light Point Beds, c. 8 - 9 m thick, are marked by the top surface of the upper Beeding Hardground at the base, and the top surface of the uppermost Light Point Hardground at the top (Mortimore, 1986a). They comprise up to five beds of strongly nodular chalk and associated hardgrounds (Light Point Hardgrounds) in less nodular, flinty chalk with marl seams (Light Point Marls) (Mortimore, 1986a). The upper part of the Light Point Beds contains an abundance of the trace fossil Zoophycos (Mortimore, 1986a).

The fauna of the Light Point Beds is characterised by the echinoid Micraster cortestudinarium and the inoceramid bivalve Cremnoceramus crassus (formerly schloenbachi) (Mortimore, 1986a).
