The Meeching Beds, c.8 m thick locally in Sussex, are marked by the Peacehaven Marl at the base and the Meeching Paired Marls at the top (Mortimore, 1986a). These beds comprise soft, flinty chalk with marl seams (Mortimore, 1986a). The basal part of the interval contains a c. 2 m thick interval of interconnected flints, named the Meeching Flint Zone, overlain by very soft chalks with three weakly developed marls named the Meeching Triple Marls (Mortimore, 1986a, 1986b).

The fauna of the Meeching Beds is sparse, except for the echinoid Echinocorys cincta (Mortimore, 1986a).
