The Peacehaven Beds, c. 5 m thick locally in Sussex, are marked by the Old Nore Marl at the base and the Peacehaven Marl at the top (Mortimore, 1986a). These beds comprise soft, flinty chalk with marl seams, and harder, iron-stained, spongiferous, nodular chalk beds (Mortimore, 1986a). The Old Nore Marl and succeeding Old Nore Paired Marls are each overlain by a conspicuous nodular flint (Peacehaven Flint 1 & Peacehaven Flint 2) (Mortimore, 1986a, 1986b).

The fauna of the Peacehaven Beds is characterised by the echinoids Offaster pilula and Echinocorys truncata and acmes of the brachiopods Terebratulina rowei and Cretirhynchia exsculpta (Mortimore, 1986a).
