|description={{|1=Specimen of roofing slate from Easdale Island, Argyllshire, Scotland. A typical dark grey Easdale slate which has been cut and'dressed'to give straight edges with a'shouldered'top. The specimen is of Precambrian, Dalradian age. British Geological Survey Petrology Collection sample number EMC 5735. Because of its large size it is termed a'sizeable'slate which means it is a full size slate. It is from the'Old Easdale'seam on Easdale Island, showing a strong crenulation (or'grain'), with common yellow pyrite crystals. Pyrite is a common mineral in slates from many countries and is distinguished by its metallic yellow appearance. It is a relatively simple mineral, essentially a sulphide of iron which forms under reducing conditions where a supply of oxygen is relatively limited. Specimen size: 37x23cm. P519559.}}<br />
