{{Information
|description={{|1=Specimen of Ballachulish Slate quarried from East Laroch Quarry, Ballachulish, Argyllshire, Scotland. One of several slate samples from the East Laroch Quarry, collected for the Geological Survey of Scotland sometime before 1911. The specimen is of Precambrian, Dalradian age. British Geological Survey Petrology Collection sample number EMC 5746. This small specimen has a smooth surface with little grain or lineation, and fresh cubes of pyrite. East Laroch Quarry worked five seams of high quality slate. Today the quarry has suffered massive landslips and most of the working faces are inaccessible. The two most important slate areas in Scotland were Ballachulish and Easdale which both benefitted enormously from their good sea links. Because most Highland slates contain the mineral pyrite, the dressing of slates was a labour-intensive job, and whole villages sprung up around the quarries, generating a living for hundreds of families. Specimen size: 18x11cm. P519570.}}
