{{Information
|description={{|1=Specimen of Ballachulish Slate from New Quarry, Ballachulish, Argyllshire, Scotland. A broken slate which has a sooty blackened surface, indicating it has been used on a roof for many years, possibly in a polluted city atmosphere. The specimen is of Precambrian, Dalradian age. British Geological Survey Petrology Collection sample number EMC 5751. The slate is dark gery, with a relatively smooth surface and several pyrite grains, typical of the Ballachulish slate. The largest slate quarries in Scotland were at Ballachulish, producing 4.5 million slates per year in 1937, and employing 370 men. In 1937, just before the demise of the industry output was estimated at 4.5 million slates per year from Ballachulish (which alone employed 370 men), 3.5 million slates from Easdale and 2.4 million slates from the Highland Border belt (Aberfoyle and Luss). Specimen size: 28x20cm. P519575.}}
