{{Information
|description={{|1=Specimen of roofing slate from Aberuchil Quarry, Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland. Dark grey very fine-grained slate with a relatively smooth cleavage surface. The specimen is of Precambrian, Dalradian age. British Geological Survey Petrology Collection sample number EMC 5767. The slate is actually a light grey colour, but the surface has dark surface staining. It is traditionally roughly dressed in the'squared and shouldered'style. This slate has not been laid on a roof, as seen by the lack of a nail hole. Scottish slates were normally cut and dressed at the quarry site, and the nail-hole punched on site by the slater whilst working on the roof. The loss of labour in the First World War marked the decline of the slate industry in Scotland. Finally after WWII the industry was almost finished with the introduction of artificial roofing material such as concrete tiles; the fate of the industry was sealed. The last operating slate quarry in Scotland, Ballachulish, ceased operations in the mid 1950s. Specimen size: 14x14cm. P519592.}}
