{{Information
|description={{|1=Specimen of roofing slate quarried from Auchengavin, Luss, Strathclyde, Scotland. Dark grey, very fine-grained slate with a smooth and highly reflective cleavage surface. The specimen is of Precambrian, Dalradian age. British Geological Survey Petrology Collection sample number EMC 5769. This variety is known as'blue slate', and was the highest quality slate produced from the Luss quarries. This specimen is roughly cut and dressed in the typical Scots style known as'squared and shouldered'. It is classed as'undersized'which means a medium-sized slate. An 1835 report on Scottish slate quarries stated that slates from Luss were of poor quality and decomposed after about 20 years. However, the fact that buildings in the area are still roofed with the same local slates after a hundred or more years, testifies to the fact that these slates are of perfectly good quality. Specimen size: 30x17cm. P519594.}}
