Very dark grey-blue slate with reflective cleavage surface showing strong&#039;grain&#039;and several pyrite crystals. The specimen is of Precambrian, Dalradian age. British Geological Survey Petrology Collection sample number EMC 836. The small island of Kerrera lies just off Oban, about 10 km north of Easdale. The slate on Kerrera is geologically the same belt of slate as that found to the south, the Easdale Slate Formation. Slate quarrying on Kerrera is not thought to have been extensive, and may have largely served the local market. Specimen size: 11x9cm.
