Muscovite sometimes known as&#039;white mica&#039;, is a potassium-bearing variety found in crystalline rocks such as granite, pegmatite, mica schists and in a finely divided state in sedimentary rocks. Under suitable conditions mica forms large crystals which split freely and yield extremely thin uniform plates and films from 1/1000 inch thick upwards. It has a high dielectric strength with remarkable electrical insulating properties at low and high temperatures.
