Base: The base of the zone is defined by the first appearance of the index species (Schulz, 1979).
Range of index species: From the base of the zone to just below the top of the zone (Schulz, 1979). In the Kronsmoor and Hemmoor sections the zone also contains Belemnella (B.) lanceolata, B. (B.) longissima, and common B. (Pachybelemnella) inflata (Schulz, 1979).
Biostratigraphical correlation: The zone equates with an interval in the lower part of the B. lanceolata Zone.
Lithostratigraphical correlation: The zone equates with an interval in the Sidestrand Chalk Member (Johansen & Surlyk, 1990).
