Industrial Museum of Scotland was founded in 1854, it became the Edinburgh Museum of Science and Art in 1866, the Royal Museum of Scotland in 1904 and then in a merger with others became the National Museum of Scotland. While never part of the Geological Survey it housed Survey collections since the Industrial Museum of Scotland days.
