The Abbotts Cliff Chalk Formation (stratotype: Abbotts Cliff Path [TR268 385] ), is c. 22 m thick at Abbotts Cliff, and comprises almost featureless white chalk, with indistinct argillaceous rhythms and patches of calcarenitic chalk in the lower part (Robinson, 1986). Detailed examination reveals extensive ''Thalassinoides'' and ''Chondrites'' bioturbation (Robinson, 1986). The Abbotts Cliff Chalk Formation (stratotype: Abbotts Cliff Path [TR268 385] ), is c. 22 m thick at Abbotts Cliff, and comprises almost featureless white chalk, with indistinct argillaceous rhythms and patches of calcarenitic chalk in the lower part (Robinson, 1986). Detailed examination reveals extensive Thalassinoides and Chondrites bioturbation (Robinson, 1986). Two subdivisions are recognised: the Hay Cliff Member overlain by the Capel-le-Ferne Member.
