The Newhaven Chalk Member, c. 60 m thick in Sussex, is marked by the lowest of the Buckle Marls at the base, and the upper of the two Castle Hill Marls at the top (Mortimore, 1986a). It comprises mostly soft, smooth-textured-chalk, with regularly developed nodular flint horizons and common marl seams throughout (Mortimore, 1986a).
