The East Wear Bay Chalk Formation (stratotype Copt Point to Hay Cliff, Folkestone [TR 242 365 to TR 301 394] ), c. 58 m thick at Abbots Cliff, comprises rhythmically bedded carbonate-rich and carbonate-poor marly chalk, becoming less argillaceous towards the top of the formation (Robinson, 1986).
