Groundwater and Hydrogeological Maps in Africa
The lists below give details of more than 60 hydrogeological and thematic groundwater maps of all or parts of Africa, at various scales. Many of these maps are available to view online, and weblinks are provided where relevant.

They represent the main continuous & discontinuous aquifers, graded according to facies, mean thickness, overall groundwater flow rates, and water quality. |
A number of other maps at a national or sub national scale were produced and/or edited by BRGM between 1952 and 2010, mainly for Sahelian countries (see the map below). These are held in BRGM archives, usually as pdf images; a few are in paper (hard copy) format only. Also in BRGM's archives are more groundwater maps produced by other organisations, most of which are in paper format only. When available, the details of these maps will be added to the lists on this page.
Sub National Scale Maps
These are maps that cover smaller areas of a country. In a few cases, such as South Africa, a consistent series of sub national maps has been produced to cover the whole country. In most cases, sub national maps are available for only selected areas - eg administrative districts, catchments or aquifers.
This is not a comprehensive list - there are many more sub national hydrogeological, groundwater resource and thematic groundwater maps that have been produced for specific projects or activities. Many of these are only available as images in project reports.
