The Plenus Marls Formation (North Downs reference section: Shakespeare Cliff [TR 307 398]), 2.67 m thick at Shakespeare Cliff, comprises marls and marly chalks (Robinson, 1986), and equates with the Plenus Marls of the traditional classification (Jukes-Browne & Hill, 1903). The base of the unit is marked by the Sub-Plenus erosion surface, and the top by the base of the overlying Dover Chalk Formation (Robinson, 1986).
