York Office - Geological Survey of Great Britain
York Office was open between 1924-1938
The Summary of progress for 1924 states the following regarding the opening of the York Office: "Towards the close of the year another branch office was being prepared for occupation at 14A, Parliament Street, York, where Mr. Bromehead and the Yorkshire unit would find local quarters. The selection of York was made on the grounds that it is equally accessible to all parts of the Yorkshire coalfield, and owing to the rapid and important developments in the Concealed Coalfield around Doncaster it is specially necessary to visit borings and shafts in that district at short notice."
