Green, G W. 1992. British regional geology: Bristol and Gloucester region (Third edition). (London: HMSO for the British Geological Survey.)

Cretaceous rocks have a very limited outcrop within the district. To the south-east of Frome high escarpments extending from Longleat to Sturton and the high ground in the neighbourhood of Chard and Crewkwerne are formed by Cretaceous strata. The deposits are described in the British Regional Geology handbooks on ‘South-West England’ and the ‘Hampshire Basin’.
