Ron Harrison worked for the Geological Survey/Institute of Geological Sciences/British Geological Survey between 1952–1985, rising to the rank of Chief Petrographer. Post-retirement from the Survey he became co-editor, abstractor and organiser for the journal Mineralogical Abstracts, an activity he pursued for 20 years.
